Vietnam Visa Exemption Information in 2011

As the latest news from the Vietnam Immigration Department in 2011, Vietnam government has released to exempt Vietnam Visa for some nationalities as follows:

- Vietnam Visa Exemption in less than 30 days for: Citizens of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Laos.

- Vietnam Visa Exemption in less than 15 days for: Citizens of Japan and South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland.

- Vietnam Visa Exemption in less than 90 days or several visits within 6 months for: Citizens of France holding valid diplomatic or official passports.

- Vietnam Visa Exemption less than 60 days: Citizens of Chile holding valid diplomatic or official passports.

-Vietnam Visa Exemption less than 60 days: APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) Holders from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies.

- Special Phu Quoc Exception: 

Foreigners and Vietnamese nationals bearing foreign passports who enter Vietnam through an international border gate and then travel to Phu Quoc Island and stay in Phu Quoc less than 15 days will also be exempt from visa application. Passports must be valid for at least 45 days. After arriving in Phu Quoc Island, if visitors want to travel other localities or stay in the island for more than 15 days, the immigration department will be responsible for issuing visas right on the spot.

Article 4: Delivery terms

On arrival in Vietnam, you must complete white and blue duplicate arrival-departure forms. The blue copy is to be kept with your passport at all times. Hotels, guest houses and private hosts must register overnight guests with the local police and these blue forms are essential for this purpose.
Incoming visitors must also fill out duplicate yellow and white customs declaration forms. The yellow copy is to remain with your passport until departure. Don't lose it!

Health & Hospital in Vietnam

No vaccinations are required except for yellow fever if you are coming from an area where the disease is present. Guide to Vietnam Visa on Arrival


Since 2003, Vietnamese government has decided to issue Vietnam Visa on Arrival for tourists and business purposes from one up to six months. That means anybody can use  one of the travel agencies online to apply  the Vietnam visa on arrival.

What is Vietnam Visa on Arrival?

The popularity of Vietnam Visa Service is indicated by the fact that, in a country with tourism promotion, a Vietnam Visa on Arrival is the most common means of traveling to Vietnam. Vietnam Visa Special Exemption for traveling to Phu Quoc, Vietnam:

Foreigners and Vietnamese nationals bearing foreign passports who enter Vietnam through an international border gate and then travel to Phu Quoc Island and stay in Phu Quoc less than 15 days will also be exempt from visa application. Passports must be valid for at least 45 days. After arriving in Phu Quoc Island, if visitors want to travel other localities or stay in the island for more than 15 days, the immigration department will be responsible for issuing visas right on the spot.
Notes: Other countries are required to apply Vietnam Visa on Arrival Service or Vietnam Visa Code to enter Vietnam.

Vietnam entry visas

Only citizens of certain countries can visit Vietnam without Vietnam entry visa. Those countries include: most citizens of ASEAN countries are no need Vietnam visa for visit Vietnam within 30 days; citizens of Korea, Japan & Scandinavians (Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland passport holders)  are no need Vietnam visa for visit Vietnam within 15 days. Direction to the Embassy: The Embassy is located on Victoria Road, opposite to Kensington Garden (Hyde Park). Nearest tube station is High Street Kensington which is about five minutes walking from the Embassy. Exit the tube station, turn right, go straight for apprroximately 300 metres before you will see Victoria Road on the right side.
Visa fees and charges:
A standard 30-day, single entry visa and processing fee cost £38. The postage administration charge is £8 for return by Special Delivery. Postage charge for two or three application together is £6 per person, for four to seven is £5 per person. For eight applications up being made together, the charge is £4 per person.
A 30-day, single entry visa in the fast-track service costs £55 if collected in person and £63 if returnt by post, inclusive of Special Delivery. You can send your application by fax two working days in advance and have your visa stamped upon submitting your original passport and visa fee payment (Please note that this fax option is allowed only in the fast-track service).
Alternatively, you can apply for a short-stay visa which is valid for 15 days, single entry. The visa will be granted within one hour if you come in person. The fee is £55.
Fees and charges are per individual and applicable to both UK and Ireland and to all applicants who possess valid and separate passports. All payments for fees and charges can be combined into one single form (in cash, postal order or bank draft). Pre-paid envelopes are not accepted.
Please note if your children are also on your passports, they will be exempted. Otherwise, they will need separate visas and will be charged as such. You do not need, however, to file separate application forms for them.

How to get a Vietnamese visa in Singapore

1. Visit Vietnamese embassy in Singapore:

You just complete the forms and return them to the Embassy in Singapore for processing. It will take about 4/5 days to get it processed and the fee is around £24. If you want an urgent one, you have to pay slightly more e.g £30 for 3/4 days etc.

Travel agency in Singapore will handle it for you, but they’ll charge commission. It’s quite expensive to get a Vietnam visa directly from the embassy in Singapore anyway (compared to getting it in Thailand or Cambodia, for example) even without paying extra for an agent to do it for you.
3. Getting visa on arrival
You may also get a visa on arrival to Vietnam, however, this method is applicable to air travel only.
