How to apply Visa to Vietnam

You can either apply by yourself through Vietnamese Embassies or Consulates in your country or using a local travel agent's service (your sponsor) to do a part or full of its procedure.
By yourself:
  • Required documentations: you have to submit: passport of six months validity, visa application forms, and probably some others required by Vietnamese embassy or consulates in your country. Visa forms are available by getting directly or by mail with a stamped, self-addressed envelope addressed to their Visa section. Request by email is perhaps acceptable (in some cases).
  • See Visa application form and list of Vietnamese Embassies and Consulates abroad (also available Foreign Embassies and Consulates in Vietnam).
  • Time: processing tourist visa application typically takes four or five working days.
  • Cost: fees vary from embassy to embassy; about $50 in Bangkok and $85 in Washington, for example.
Through local travel agency:
Provide Vietnam visa on arrival service. Please refer to the Detailed visa procedure and services for more information.

Vietnam Visa for French citizens?

Question: Hi, I have a French passport and I would like to travel to Vietnam for a month. I have seen on your website that: “Vietnam Visa is exempted for France, Chile citizens holding valid diplomatic or official passports within 90 days or several visits of 6 months as from the date of arrival.” But I have called the Vietnam embassies in France and Vietnam, and they told me that I required a visa because I only has a “normal” (non-diplomatic) French passport. Could you tell me if I need a visa, and where I could get up-to-date information about visas for French citizens? Thanks a lot. Gilles Gautier
Answer:
Hi Gilles, i think you will need one too on your French passport, i got mine a few days ago for my September travel. hope that helps, Francois.

Vietnam Visa Multiple Entry

Question: I would like to know if I can use your “visa on arrival” service (multiple entries, one month) if I fly into a) HCM Airport from USA, b) drive to Cambodia overland with a Cambodia visa, c) drive back to HCM ? Does option (c) allow me to come back to HCM ? Thank-you
Answer: Hi Joe
Multiple entry visa will work perfectly for you, visa on arrival requires that the first entry must be by air, following entries/exits can be either air or overland.
We wish you an enjoyable trip to Vietnam and Cambodia.
Warmest Regards,

Can i get a visa (tourist) despite the fact that my passport is valid for only 4 months ?

Question: Hi there! I am an Irish student travelling Asia for the Summer (12 weeks). When I left Ireland on the 30th of May my passport was valid for another 6 months, however now it only valid for 4. It expires on the 5th of December 2011. I am terrified this will create problems for me as I wish to move from Laos, where I currently am, to Vietnam. The transition will be made over land. I have spent the day looking up this on the internet and most places say that I will need 6 months validity beginning on my entry into Vietnam (WHICH I DO NOT HAVE). There is no point in me applying for a passport extension as it will take too long. I wish to spent a week in Vietnam and then fly from Ho Chi Minh to Bangkok. A small number of internet sites didnt mention the 6 month validity issue but did instead say that a month passport validity upon leaving Vietnam is necessary. (this would not create any problems for me). Im not sure if this is exactly your field of expertise but I urgently need to know anything that could help me. Can you give me any insight as to this subject. I have tried contacting the embassy in Laos but it was too late and it will be closed at the weekend. I also tried to contact the Vietnamese embassy in London with no luck, unfortnately. I would really appreciate any help or advice you could give me, Thank you!
Answer: Dear Ciara
6-month validity remaining on passport is mandatory for any entry to Vietnam, so in order to avoid any problems at both  departure and arrival airports, we suggest that you contact a nearest Irish embassy renew your passport before you travel to Vietnam.
The Embassy of Ireland in Vietnam is accredited to Laos.  Should you require advice or assistance, or in the event of an emergency, please contact the Embassy in Hanoi on +84 4 3974 3291.
Hope that helps.

Tourist Visa Requirements for US Citizens

Are you a US citizen planning to visit Asia? Well, you’re in luck! The following guide covers the latest visa requirements for popular travel destinations in Asia. It has all the basic information you need to plan your trip and attain your visa quickly and easily. The guide is applicable to American citizens, holders of passports issued in the United States and those born in the US, and it’s for Tourist Visas only, not Business or Diplomatic Visas.
11 300x135 Tourist Visa Requirements for US Citizens
Tourist Visa Requirements for US Citizens
We’ve sorted the guide based on the suggested time required to apply for your tourist visa in certain countries, they are – No advanced planning, Three-day preparation, and Two-week preparation:

Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand No Advance Planning
Australia, Cambodia, Vietnam Three-day Preparation
India, China, Myanmar, Russia Two-week Preparation
 No Advance Planning
Some Asian countries will grant you a tourist visa automatically upon your arrival, and there’s no need for pre-arrangements or payments. The immigration officer will simply stamp your passport with a date showing either the number of days you can stay, or a date indicating when you must leave the country.
The stamp on your passport will technically serve as a ‘visa,’ which allows you to enter the country multiple times within a specific number of days. The countdown begins on the first day you enter the country. Sometimes, this is also known as ‘a multiple-entry visa.’

In some countries, a visa on arrival comes with a fee. Basically, when you arrive at an entry point, you’ll need to visit the ‘visa-on-arrival’ counter to submit a visa application. You’ll be required to provide passport-sized photos and a stamping fee.
The visa they issue will usually take the form of a sticker or stamp on your passport. By default, you will get a single-entry visa. However, some countries will give you the option to pay for longer stays and multiple entries. Those with single-entry visas will be allowed to stay only for a specific number of days. Each time you leave the country and re-enter, you’ll have to apply for another visa.

Three-day Preparation

Some Asian countries require you to submit your visa application in advance, that is before you arrive at the entry point. Usually, you’ll be given a reference number or an approval letter to indicate that your visa has already been approved.
While some countries will grant you the visa without payment, others will require you to pay for a stamping fee at the visa-on-arrival counter. These days, you can submit a visa application online, without the need to hand over your original passport.

Certain nations will grant you a Visa by email, soon after you’ve submitted your online application. Since you get the visa in advance, this is by far the most convenient way. All you need to do is print out your visa and carry it with your passport. Once your visa application has been approved, however, you must usually enter the country within a specific number of days.
Country Stamping Fee Day to Stay Validity No of Entry How to Get Visa?
Australia Free 3 Months 1 Year Multiple Entry
Cambodia USD20 1 Month 3 Month Single Entry
Vietnam USD25 1 Month 1 Year Single Entry Apply Visa
Two-week Preparation
Some Asian countries expect you to get a visa ready well before you make the trip to their country. This usually means you’ll have to apply for the visa at the embassy of the country you wish to visit, and they’ll issue the visa to you. For obvious reasons, visa applications at embassies are usually much easier to do when you’re in your home country, before you travel.
In some cases, you can also apply for a visa through travel agents; they have ‘runners’ who’ll go to the embassy for you. Some embassies will even let you mail in your passport and visa application. Depending on the country you visit, the start date of your visa may begin once it has been issued to you, instead of counting down from the day you first entered the country.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, it’s generally much easier for you to get your visa in the US, before you hop on that plane. To help you find foreign embassies in the US, we’ve created these tables for your reference. Please note that they apply mainly to Asian countries that require advanced visa applications.
